Today you will be going to this website to read additional information on our solar system and compete with your classmates for a high score in The Cassini Commander. After two attempts at The Cassini Commander, you will be creating an organizational chart on the information regarding the Solar System we learned in class today.
Once at the website be sure to read about each planet carefully- you will need to record information from this website onto your flowchart (three facts must come from this site).
After each attempt of The Cassini Commander (which can be accessed at anytime from the web page above or by clicking here ) take a screen shot, paste it into a MS Word document, and then save the document onto your USB.
From the desktop of the computer open inspiration or kidspiration. Here you will be creating an organizational chart from the information you gathered in class today. You may use any format of a chart that we have already discussed in class. The charts you make this week will later be used to complete a group PowerPoint project. Your chart must include the answer to each of the following statements for each individual planet:
1. Whether or not the planet has rings 2. Planets size 3. Planet composition 4. Whether or not the planet has moons 5.Minimum two additional facts about the planet (from text book reading) 6. From the online reading add three facts of your choice

Tuesday
Have fun exploring our solar systems orbital paths, record three different placements of planets you see. Complete your organizational chart adding in the information you learned today.
On this website you may adjust the speed, time, planet scale and orbital brightness. Have fun speeding up and slowing down time as you observe the planets orbital paths and placement in relation to each other. Pause the planets at three different times and record in your science notebooks what you see. Be sure to label the planets and use different colors for each planets' path.
Open up the organizational chart from yesterday. Complete it using the information you learned in class. Be sure to answer the following:1.The movement patterns of the planets in our Solar System
2.The planets different surface features
3.What an elliptical orbit is and how long each planet takes to complete theirs
4.Which planets have satellites orbiting them

Go here and read the book What's In Space? online. After reading, complete the questions below in your science notebook.
True or False: The Sun's intense light can damage your eyes.
Why do telescopes allow us to see the colors of stars?
Explain how the material from stars is recycled.
Create a new organizational chart in inspiration or kidspiration for the information about the Sun you recorded in your excel sheet today.
This chart may be in any form you would like as long as it includes all of the information.
When you are done with your chart, find two pictures of the sun with the search engines RedZ! or FactMonster and incorporate them into your chart.
Save your organizational chart to your USB.
Thursday
You're in charge! Click to make your own solar system. You may make your first solar system however you would like (screen print and save image to USB). Your second solar system must be accurate and include at least one comet (screen print and save image to USB).
Use the completed excel sheet from today's lesson to finish your organizational chart on the Sun. Do not forget to save this chart to your USB. Be sure that all of the following are answered:
1.What is the closet star to Earth?
2.What is the central body in our Solar System?
3.What is largest body in our Solar System?
4.Where the Sun is located on our disk-shaped galaxy?
Be the teacher. Click hereto create a crossword puzzle using the information from your excel sheet/organizational chart on the Sun.
Pick the style of crossword puzzle you like and click on it
Follow the on screen directions
Make sure to use a minimum of eight words and clues
When done, exchange your puzzle with a classmate
Turn in the puzzle you completed with you and your partners name on the top

Today is the big day- time to put together all of the hard work you've done this week and create your final project...the PowerPoint! You may work in groups of a maximum of four students or independently to complete this assignment. Be sure to include all of the information that you have composed on your organizational charts.
Include all information from organizational charts (outlined throughout the above assignments)
Include transitions, animations, and sounds (min. two per slide)
Include 8-10 pictures
Have a title page with your name or group member names, picture, and project title
